INDePth is a student-initiated conference affiliated with the Asian Institute at the Munk School of Global Affairs.

We are proud to announce South Asia as our 2016-2017 regional site. Delegates will explore South Asia through the theme of “South Asian Worlds” by engaging with the key question of “How do South Asian ‘worlds’ challenge ‘third world’ imaginaries?” We aim to facilitate dialogue in order to re-imagine South Asia as a living, breathing entity consisting of a population of over 1.7 billion. Studying the region as an active research site helps to contextualize larger ‘Asian’ and ‘global’ discourses. By doing so, we look at the ways in which the concept of Worlding challenges notions of ‘third world’ development discourse and helps to understand the region.

We hope to create a forum where delegates can ‘tie the local to the regional, and the regional to the global’, and ‘participate in a multidisciplinary discussion on issues which can be of great use in studying various facets of global affairs.’

Join us on March 10th for the 2017 Conference to debate and take part in multiple workshops with fellow delegates, the executive members of the INDePth team, and academic speakers from leading universities in Canada.
